Hi engineers. How are you? Hope all of you are safe in this pandamic. As the government ordered to give mass promotion to the intermediate semesters that is 2 ,4 &6.
Gtu will give the results of the respective semesters as soon as possible starts new academics from 7 June .
As the gtu syllabus includes thermodynamics as your subject.
Here we are sharing the pdf book of FUNDAMENTALS OF THERMODYNAMICS.

Understand thermodynamics from an engineer’s perspective
Borgnakke and Sonntag’s Fundamentals of Thermodynamics has long stood as the text of choice for an introduction to the theory and application of thermodynamics. Written from an engineer’s point of view, this updated and revised Seventh Edition of the classic text offers a comprehensive and rigorous treatment of classical thermodynamics. With concise, applications-oriented discussion of topics and self-test problems, the text encourages students to monitor their own progress and absorb the concepts step by step.
Updated with additional examples, homework problems, and illustrations to increase student understanding, this new edition:
- Includes concept check questions within chapters
- Provides more figures, additional examples, and application sections in each chapter
- Includes a revised version of CATT software for ease of calculating property data
- Features the ThermoNet Web Site, with an extensive collection of Internet-based learning resources in engineering thermodynamics at the college level
Preparing students to effectively apply thermodynamics in the practice of engineering, Fundamentals of Thermodynamics, Seventh Edition lays the groundwork for subsequent success in fields such as fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and statistical thermodynamics.
About the Author
Richard E. Sonntag received his BSE, MSE and Ph.D. degrees, all in mechanical engineering, from the University of Michigan. He is a Professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan and served as the department chair for eleven years. He is a fellow of the ASME and served on numerous committees within ASME and been vice chair and chair of the regional Department Heads.
Claus Borgnakke earned his MSE and Ph.D. from the Technical University of Denmark. He is an Associate Professor at the University of Michigan, where he received the Excellence in Teaching Award as well as other awards and recognitions, including the Ralph E. Teetor Award from SAE.
IMPORTANCE IN ENGINEERING.
Actually the main problem is that the subject of thermodynamics is taught only in mechanical and some other branches of engineering and that too with too much of mathematics used.
Thermodynamics is a fundamental science which governs the the energy aspect of the whole universe. It is equally necessary for chemistry and may be atomic physics anything to do with energy.
The concept should be taught even at the school level without indulging in mathematics.
I would state below some very basic concepts that every educated person should understand clearly.
1. Energy can never be created nor destroyed. It can only be converted. Conversion of mass in to energy and vice versa is a different level about which I will not say anything here because I am not qualified enough. But it would also follow the fundamental laws.
2. Though energy can be converted all forms of energy are not equivalent. Heat and work are fundamentally different where there are additional restrictions in conversion. Heat is a disordered form of energy. Work is ordered. Electricity is also ordered.
3. It is easy to convert order to disorder but difficult the other way round. So you can always convert work completely to heat but not other way.
2.Thermodynamics is very much important in mechanical engineering as well as in your daily life.
Thermodynamics simply means “ Dynamics of heat OR motion of heat “. It's major part is used in industries where concepts of BOILER , POWER PLANT , HEAT TRANSFER are applied .
In India , NTPC , SAIL , GAIL and many other industries also have a major use of THERMODYNAMICS .
In short , Thermodynamics is the basic concept of Thermal Engineering and it is very interesting if you have a good book for it.
Best books for Thermodynamics :
